Sometimes your workout gear can get a little funky smelling. If it’s not, I guess you aren’t working hard enough! (I kid, I kid!). With all the technical fabrics and their laundry instructions, it can sometimes be hard to keep the stink away. There are a few things you can do to keep your workout clothes nice and fresh:
- Don’t forget the deodorant! Seriously—if you use antiperspirant you won’t have stinky body odor= less smelly workout clothes.
- Baking soda is a great natural deodorizer. Try sprinkling some where your sweaty workout clothes hang out, i.e. hamper, bag, etc. You can also add a 1/2 cup of baking soda to your laundry to help with odor removal.
- Wear breathable fabrics like performance shirts as much as you can. Fabrics like cotton hold sweat like a sponge and are much more likely to get smelly.
- Wash your workout clothes as soon as possible. If you can’t wash them in a timely manner, hang them up to dry out before tossing them in the hamper or laundry basket.
I usually wash my running gear in warm water, although I do have pieces that recommend washing in cold water. We do most of our laundry in cold water to conserve energy. Cold water is easier on the fabrics anyway. I like to use Tide Coldwater since it’s specifically formulated for use cold water temps.
