An Easy Way to Help the Students of Sandy Hook

Students at Sandy Hook Elementary school will be headed back to school after the New Year at a new location. Some local Newtown parents are looking to create a “Winter Wonderland” in the students’ new school.

snowflakesParents and children can work together to make snowflakes for the winter wonderland. All styles, colors, designs are welcome. This project is NOT a memorial, so please no names of victims. When you are finished with your snowflakes, they can be mailed to the following address by January 12:

Connecticut PTSA,
60 Connolly Parkway, Building 12, Suite 103
Hamden CT 06514

I am simply going to tell the boys we are making snowflakes to decorate a school—I know they will be so excited to help craft them. Let’s help make their Winter Wonderland a magical place!

Christmas Treat BoxesYesterday I put together the little cookie boxes for James’ schoolmates. Since this is his last week at his current preschool, we wanted to do something a little special for all of his friends. I think they turned out really well—thanks to Martha Stewart baking supplies (boxes come with the string, labels, and tissue paper)! I picked up mine on clearance for $3.99 for a package of 6.

Since I baked the school batches, I let the boys do their own last night. It was my first experience using one of Trader Joe’s baking mixes. I was surprised to open the box of cookie mix at home to discover that it also contained icing and sprinkles! Score!

  2. I’m not a teacher, but my girls are making snowflakes with me and my husband tonight so that we can send them along. What a special thing to do.

And we’re working on school gifts for Averi’s class, too! But she has closer to 15 kids, so we’re thinking candy canes and cards instead of cookies this time around. :)
