Putting the “Wild” Back in Wild Harbor

So, I ran a grand total of 1.5 miles during yesterday’s very early morning (in the dark!). Here’s how it went:

I left the house around 5:35 in the morning. It was pitch black, but I was constantly scanning the surroundings with my headlamp. About three-quarters of a mile into my run I glanced to the left and picked up a pair of fluorescent green eyes.

I didn’t panic immediately, but I got a nice jolt of adrenaline working. The eyes moved behind a tree and I kept on going. Call it natural instinct, but I ran ahead a bit and looked over my shoulder and saw the two eyes following behind me on the road.

The first thing I did was scream VERY loudly (I apologize to any of the residents of the vicinity who may have woken up a little earlier than they wanted to! Winking smile). I booked it up the road and then pulled out my iPhone and called my husband on his cell phone.

It rang and rang and went to voicemail. I then called my mother, who (thank God!) is always up early. I told her what happened and asked her to stay on the phone with me until I got back to the house.

I am guessing that the animal following me was a coyote. They have been known to go down Wild Harbor Road and there is a section of a road that abuts conservation land.

Although there are also fox in the area, I really can’t see a fox trotting after me unless he was just really curious. Either way, I am all set with the close encounters of the wildlife kind. I am going to have to work out a way to run during daylight or drag someone else along when it’s dark!!

So Excited to be an Altra Ambassador!

Yesterday, I was super excited to find out that I got selected to be an Altra Ambassador for 2013! Most of you guys have heard about my love for Altra shoes on different occasions, but if not, feel free to catch up HERE and HERE. I can’t wait to help spread the Altra love!

ProvisionessI love my Altras because they are super comfy (nice wide toe box) and help me keep my natural foot strike. For anyone who has suffered common running injuries, they are definitely worth looking into. The company is growing and is constantly adding new shoes to their line.

I am very excited to see the Spring 2013 line-up! I made it out the door at 5:35 for yesterday morning’s run, and by the time you read this, I will be back for my second in a row.

It’s definitely going to take some getting used to running in the dark. Thank God for my awesome headlamp. I got more than one adrenaline rush yesterday—thanks to the idiot who beeped at me. Nothing like being startled when you are running in the dark! Sad smile

I will admit that it felt so good to have a half hour to enjoy the sound of silence and drink my coffee prior to heading out the door. I could definitely get used to this!

Shifting my Training Schedule

It’s still kind of surreal that I am now a resident of Falmouth again! Since my local YMCA is no longer 10 minutes away, my training will be shifting to the early morning hours before my husband leaves for work. Zero dark thirty baby!

Starting this morning, I headed out the door at about 6 for my six-miler. Thankfully, the temps are not as cold this week, and we have a nice warming trend mid-week to look forward to! Winking smile

I set out my outfit the night before! ;-)

I am hoping that the new morning run routine with help jump start my motivation, which has been seriously lacking over the past week and a half! Being out of town and the stress of the move definitely put a damper on my training.

James starts school this morning, and I will be the helping parent for the date. I’m so excited that this co-op lets you bring the child’s younger sibling too! Collin is going to have a lot of fun “going to school.” He has been talking about it for a few days.

This week will bring a lot more organization and relocating of objects. I am also trying to finalize plans for some of the projects we will be doing at our new house—including redecoration of the boys’ room and adding a shower and new vanity in the upstairs bathroom.

I love interior decoration, so I am excited to flex my muscles in the new home! I am hoping to start digging into some of the work this week while James is in school and I can try to keep Collin occupied. Winking smileWe’ll have to see how that works out…
