I Finally Found a Running Skirt I’m in Love With!

A while back I wrote about the chafing I was getting from running skirts during long runs. After posting the article, Skirt Sports reached out to me to try their skirts to see if they could help me with the chafing issue.

I received a Gym Girl Ultra Skirt and one of the Marathon Chick skirts. For those of you who have not checked out Skirt Sports yet, they have an UNBELIEVABLE selection of colors and prints for skirts. The Gym Girl Ultra skirt is a beautiful turquoise color and I chose pink for the Marathon Chick skirt.

I have worn both skirts numerous times now and I love them! The Gym Girl Ultra is great if you like a little more length to your skirt and you prefer the compression shorts underneath. Plus, it has a pocket on the right side of the shorts that can hold an iPhone! I went running the other day and loved the fact that I could stash my phone there and it stayed put and was comfortable for the entire run.

The Marathon Chick is shorter and has the spankies (underwear) instead of the compression shorts. I majorly HEART this skirt! I wore this skirt in my last race and loved how comfy it was. The people cheering must have loved it too, because the kept yelling “Go pink!” SmileI am a total convert to the skirt with spankies—I think a lot of my chafing was from the fabric rubbing together between my legs and that’s just not an issue with the spanks. I can’t wait to wear it for the ZOOMA Cape Cod Half Marathon!

I also love that Skirt Sports was started by a fellow mother runner and triathlete, Nicole DeBoom. She believes that if you look good, you feel good, and your training and performance follows! I think she is spot on.

Skirt Sports offers new specials every Monday, so check out their Facebook page and sign up to be on the mailing list (and find out where you can by Skirt Sports skirts locally) to get updates on the latest sales. Sometimes you can snag a skirt for up to 50% off!!

Skirt Sports provided 30 Something Mother Runner with two skirts. I was not obligated to write this review, but I chose to do so because I LOVE them!

Running Skirts Over the Long Run

It’s no secret that I love my running skirts. I think they are functional and very cute, but not for long runs any more. I have come to the personal conclusion that skirts are not great for me when I am running for over an hour.

Last week, I did an 8 mile run with speed work, and I almost threw out the skirt I was running in because it created such chafing on my inner thighs. A nice burning sensation is not my idea of a pleasant post-workout shower experience!

Before you ask, I do use Body Glide, but I find that I still have the issue once I hit the hour mark. So, I headed to Rhode Runner to find some suitable replacements for my increased training volume. The new store is AMAZING and about four times bigger than the old one!

I am not into compression shorts that are too short—I just can’t go there. After rifling the clothing racks, I found a pair of Brooks Infiniti Short Tights. Although they are compression shorts, they are a bit longer than the boy shorts, so I think I can work with them. I am going to give them a test drive later this morning over 6 miles. The true test will be my long run this weekend. I will keep you posted on their performance! Winking smile

Also, for anyone considering the ZOOMA Cape Cod Half Marathon, there will be a price increase on June 22, so go ahead and register now. Don’t forget to use the code to the right of this post to save $10 on the half marathon and $5 off the 10K!
