And back to reality. I arrived back home yesterday at about 2pm. The weekend was a blast, and even though I was unable to race, I had a great time.
The vacation was the first one I had taken away from the kids since my oldest son was born almost four years ago! Although I did miss the kids and enjoyed seeing them on FaceTime, I am so happy for the opportunity to get away and have some “me” time.
I also wish I had taken the opportunity sooner. My husband is very supportive and has always encouraged me to take a weekend away, I guess I just feared missing the kids too much while I was away.
Time away to rest and recharge is such a powerful thing for a parent. I LOVE my job as a stay at home mother to my two boys, but sometimes I long for a break from taking care of everyone but myself. While I was away in Virginia Beach, I was able to fly by the seat of my pants and do whatever I felt like at any given moment.
Even sitting in traffic outside of Washington, D.C. wasn’t quite so bad, since I didn’t have anyone screaming in the backseat or asking me if we were there yet.
Although I was sad for my long weekend to come to a close, it was wonderful to come home to the boys and give them their souvenirs. I realized how much I missed their giggles and sweet smiles!
