Spode-Plate-Hanging-Accent-Wall

We are back from another whirlwind fall weekend! Yesterday we headed up to the LEGO Discovery Center in Somerville, MA for LEGO Ninjago Day (we received complimentary tickets). The boys are slightly obsessed with LEGO Ninjago, so they were SO EXCITED to visit! We got to snap a picture with Kai and do Ninjago training, along with a lot of building before heading home!

I’m still in the process of decorating our living room/dining room. The big projects are done, but I am now adding the finishing details and making it feel cozy and lived-in. When we first chose the wall color, I envisioned an accent wall where I could hang decorative plates from our Spode Blue Room Collection plates that we received as a wedding gift 11 years ago! I love these plates, but I didn’t want to use them for everyday use and we already have a set of china. Since they are beautiful, I thought “Why not hang them on the wall?”

I love these plates and the designs are from the same time period that our house was built, so they are the perfect addition to the living room. If you have a collection of plates you would like to display too, here’s how to do it:

  1. Measure your wall to determine the dimensions. This will be helpful when centering the plates and making sure they look balanced on the wall.
  2. Clean the back of the plates thoroughly and let them dry completely.
  3. Follow the directions to set the adhesive on the backs of the wall hangers (I use these Flatirons Discs that come in different sizes for the type of plates you are mounting).Disc-Plate-Hanger
  4. Trace your plates on craft paper and then cut them out.
  5. Use painter’s tape to arrange the paper cut outs on the wall. It’s so much easier to get it just right with the paper cutouts!
  6. When you are happy with the arrangement, attach your picture hooks and hang your plates,
  7. If you want to attach the bottom of the plates as well, you can use a piece of 3M Command strips. These strips help prevent any movement.
